Hospitality and tourism is a vast industry with many different career paths. Trainees seeking a degree in hospitality and tourism are prepared to enter nearly any segment of the industry, such as lodging, hotels, restaurants, casino, cruise line operations, resorts and spas, event management, or airline catering. Trainees are provided the knowledge and competences needed to successfully manage a restaurant, hotel, or an independently-owned hospitality or tourism business.
Three Occupational Sectors offered at NVTC: Food and Beverage, Commercial Cookery and Front Office. .
Occupational Sector: Food and Beverage Operations
A job as a Food and Beverage Server falls under the broader career category of Waiters and Waitresses. Servers are the people in the front lines of food and beverage customer service; they take orders, deliver food, clean up and reset the table afterwards. Be it a casual dining place or a service restaurant, servers are the smiling, aproned agents of deliciousness.
Part of your job description as a food and beverage server includes making sure the orders are right, the food comes out as quickly as possible, each person has enough wet-naps, and you can roll a mean fork, as well as spoon and knife in a napkin, though these at times can depend on the type of responsibilities you get.

Energetic and personable, Food and Beverage Servers have excellent customer service skills and work in a fast-paced environment. They are professional, attentive and detail-oriented, ensuring customers have a great dining experience. Job Duties
To ensure that guests are provided with drinks and food when requested and offered these when appropriate in an effort to maximize sales. To ensure the Restaurant service is at a quality at all times whilst preserving a level of guest privacy. To complete all cleaning and preparation to ensure a smooth service at all times. Ensure that all guests are served to the hotels standard in the Restaurant / Bar / Lounge areas. Display highest standards of hospitality and welcome are demonstrated at all times within all food and beverage areas.
Takes orders for, serves (where applicable, prepares) food and beverages to guests as per the hotels standards in a friendly, timely and efficient manner Take orders and serve food and beverages to patrons at tables in dining establishment.
Food and Beverage Servers are customer service professionals that work for restaurants, cocktail bars and other establishments. In addition to serving food and drinks, Food and beverage Servers perform tasks, such as setting up tables, removing used dishes and preparing simple dishes. They serve as the main point of contact for customers A Food and Beverage Server may work for a single establishment, or they may work for third-party catering companies. A good portion of their income comes from tips. The career is expected to grow at 3 percent over the next ten years, which is less than average.

Clothing Production - NQA Level 1-4
This training program is intended to provide skills and knowledge in Clothing Production, which fosters the development of both manual and intellectual skills. The approach to the subject as advocated in the training program is trainee centered. It tries to involve trainees in planning and designing their practical work. This approach encourages the acquisition of technical skills and knowledge, leading to knowledge based society, which is the goal of the Namibian vision 2030. This qualification recognizes people who have the competencies required for performing clothing production tasks in a clothing production environment. It is awarded to people who have demonstrated the skills and knowledge required to produce fashion illustrations, follow workplace safety procedures in a clothing production environment; communicate with colleagues and clients; lay and mark fabrics and garment pieces; construct and manipulate blocks; perform cutting, sewing and pressing operations; apply finishing procedures; apply quality standards in a clothing production environment. They are able to demonstrate basic knowledge of workplace health and safety, and apply fundamental communication and numeracy competencies in the workplace.

Bricklaying and Plastering - NQF Levels: Level 1 to Level 4
Bricklaying and Plastering involves laying bricks to construct brickwork. They use materials such as solid bricks, hollow concrete blocks, structural tiles, natural artificial stones and pre-fabricated masonry panels. When bricklayer begins a project, they first study the blue prints and then determine the brick layout by placing them in a ‘dry course’ a process that involves no mortar. They must plan the layout so that, if multiple layers of brick are used, none of the joint overlap. Bricklayers use variety of tools such as trowels, jointers, hummers, rulers, chisels, squares and mallets.

Joinery and Cabinet Making - NQF Levels: Level 1 to Level 3
Joiners and Cabinet makers manufacture all the woodwork that is necessary for comfort as well as for ornamental purposes in building, such as windows, doors and counters. They examine plans, sketches, drawings and specification to determine job requirements and select and measure appropriate kinds of wood, cutting and shaping the material with hand tools or woodworking machines to from suitable units for assembling.
They also decorate furniture and fixtures by inlaying wood, applying veneer, carving and turning designs. Joiners and cabinet makers, fabricate tables, chairs, drawers, trays, beds and other furniture for house interiors. They also perfume decorative work in houses and premises, setting up shelves and equipping build- in compartments and wardrobes.
Typical tasks include preparing wood and wood-substitutes to be cut by measuring and marking them according to instructions from a supervisor or a blueprint, and cutting materials and shaping/smoothing them using specialist tools. They work with a range of tools including augers and drills for boring holes; saws and chisels for cutting; rulers, squares, levels and compasses for measuring; plumb-bobs to give a straight line; clamps for fastening; and grindstones, sandpaper and files for sharpening and smoothing.

Plumbing and Pipefitting is any system that conveys fluids for a wide range of applications. Plumbing uses pipes, valves, plumbing fixtures, tanks and other apparatuses to convey fluids.

Job Duties
A Plumber and Pipe fitter assemble, install, repair, maintain pipes, valves, fittings, drainage systems, fixtures and make changes in pipe systems used to carry water, steam, air, liquids and gases. A Plumber and Pipefitter also collaborate with general contractors, electricians, and other construction professionals. Respond to, diagnose, and resolve plumbing emergencies.
